Customising Session Type Names in Ground Training Programs
Overview
FlightLogger uses default names for the different types of sessions that can be built into ground training programs. These names are designed to align with current EASA and FAA terminology, but your school may have its own naming conventions — or work within a regulatory framework that uses different language.
This setting lets you replace the default session type names with custom names that match your school's terminology. Once saved, your custom names will appear everywhere these session types are shown in FlightLogger.
Default session type names
FlightLogger uses the following default names for ground training session types:
- Ground Lesson
- Stage Check
- Final Stage Check
- Official Exam
- Knowledge Test
- Supplemental Ground Lesson
How to customise session type names
- Go to Administration -> Account Settings in the top menu
- Scroll to the Ground Training section
- Below the pass limit settings, you will find a table with a Default name column and a Custom name column
- Click into any Custom name field and type your preferred name
- All fields must have a name before you can save — no field can be left empty
- Click Save to apply your changes
Your custom names will immediately take effect across FlightLogger.
Resetting to default names
If you want to go back to the original FlightLogger names at any point:
- In Administration -> Account Settings -> Ground Training, click Reset to default
- All custom name fields will revert to their default names
- Click Save to confirm
Where custom names appear
Once saved, your custom session type names will be shown throughout FlightLogger, including:
- Booking page — when creating or viewing bookings
- Activity page — in activity logs and overviews
- Student folder — when reviewing a student's training records
- Revision editor — when editing program revisions
- Session builder — when adding or editing sessions within a ground training program
Note for schools migrating from older FlightLogger accounts
If your school has been using FlightLogger for some time, you may notice that your account still shows the previous session type names (such as Class Theory, Progress Test, Theory Release, Exam, and Type Questionnaire). These are retained automatically for existing accounts to avoid disruption. You can update them at any time using the customisation settings described above.
New accounts will have the current default names pre-configured.
Things to keep in mind
- Custom names are account-wide — they apply to all programs and all users at your school
- Renaming a session type does not change the underlying type or its function; it only changes what it is called
- If you operate across multiple regulatory frameworks (e.g. EASA and FAA), consider choosing names that work across both, or align with your primary framework
