Getting started with PTR (Pilot Training Record) grading and certificates.

This article is dedicated to Canada-based academies that wish to use FlightLogger for grading according to Transport Canada regulations.

Introduction to Transport Canada-compliant PTR grading and certificate exporting

In response to the increasing number of Canadian academies utilizing FlightLogger, we have introduce functionality that enables you to insert PTR gradings when logging a flight lesson - and extract Pilot Training Records (PTRs) that fully comply with Transport Canada regulations.

This allows you to log training flights according to PTR guidelines within FlightLogger. To get started, simply enable PTR gradings on your flight training program revision.

How to activate PTR grading on a program revision

Go to Administration -> Programs and click the specific flying program. Then click the edit (pencil) icon next to your active revision. This brings you to the revision settings and all you need to do is to tick the setting called Use additional Pilot Training Record gradings (Canada) and then save the revision.

You are now ready to start PTR grading on this program, including on students already active on the revision.

How to perform the PTR grading

When logging a lesson on a PTR activated program you now get an additional tab labeled PTR.

The four standard tabs will function as usual. Ensure you select an aircraft on the Flight tab before beginning the PTR grading to ensure the grading is connected to the specific flight. If multiple flights are added to the registration, you will be able to perform PTR grading for each flight.

On the PTR tab, simply add your grades by selecting a grade for each relevant entry. Leave the other fields empty and submit the lesson registration as normal. The lesson will now be PTR graded, and all entries will automatically populate the student's PTR document, which can then be exported as a PDF file.

How to export a student's PTR for a training program

Go to the student folder via the Users page. Now click Reports -> Report generator. In the modal click the Format dropdown and select Pilot training record.

Select the relevant program and click Generate. A pdf version of the PTR is now generated in a few seconds for you including all the grading information required by Transport Canada.
