Managing and editing your grading scale
Changing the grading scale can pose a number of issues that need to be clarified before it can be recommended.
Note that a change of your grading scale can only be done by FlightLogger's Implementation and Client Success team. Please reach out to us via support@flightlogger.net if you still wish to change your grading scale after reading this page.
1) As all previous grading on your account has been done according to your old grading scale, you will have to mirror the old and new grading scale, ex. how should your 1-4 translate into letters and if you are to use both letters and numbers it increases the complexity. It means that historically given grades will potentially be changed, especially if you change the number of grades on your scale either up or down (changing from 1-5 to A-E is not as big a problem as changing from 1-5 to 1-4)
2) When changing the account grading scale all history will change as well, so you need to inform all students about history. We recommend using our Data Backup Module for a month, which saves all student records in PDF format, so you have a local copy of all previously given grades as well.
3) The modification will take effect on all course syllabus on your account (including on historical data).
If you consider changing your grading scale, we would like to have a closer dialogue on changing the grading scale. Please expect it to require quite a bit of work from both you and us. Please contact us for further dialogue before finally deciding any changes to your grading scale.
EASA recommends the grading scale 1-5 (5 being the highest) which will work best with competency-based training as well.
