Improved (live) Booking overview, external flight registrations and better fuel management
We are super excited to announce another major update of the FlightLogger platform. We plan to roll it out on all accounts on Wednesday 2nd December at 06:00 UTC. While we don't expect any downtime during the update, we will be doing a conversion of all logbooks, which means they will be unavailable for approximately 30-60 minutes.
As always, most of what we release this time is based on your great input. Here are some of the most important improvements you can look forward to:
- Improved booking overview - always live, also on kiosk screens
- Improved fuel management – brand-new functionality (please read instructions)
- Departure/arrival airport info added to bookings
- Improvement to Flight Time Limitation Module – add "external" flights manually
- Improved user data exporting
- Restricting access to user documents
- Optional email notifications on certificate expirations
- Limitation of maximum of 6 sittings removed
- Program status on user page now showing “Remaining hours” row
Please make sure to read the full announcement below, as there are instructions you must follow to set up some of the new functionalities released.
Improved Booking overview – always live, also on kiosk screens
To improve your user experience on the booking side, we have been re-coding the booking overview to make sure all information is live and instantly updated. For example, this means that once a user creates or edits a booking, it is immediately reflected on all other users’ booking overview pages, without needing to refresh your browser. This also includes the kiosk screens where you no longer need to manually refresh the page to update the booking overview.
The improvements of booking functionalities also include consolidating the daily and weekly booking overview into one page, while maintaining the same intuitive user interface as you are familiar with already – but live, as mentioned before. Via the selector on the top right corner of the calendar, you can easily switch between the two views.
Monthly view to be included on Booking Overview soon
We are still redesigning the monthly overview to optimize usability, and we expect to add this view with one of our upcoming updates, to make sure you get the full overview from just one page in the future. The same goes for our 'create booking' page, which will also go live in one of the next releases.
Improved fuel management – brand-new functionality
Important: This update requires certain actions to be performed on your account.
To improve your ability to handle fuel consumption in FlightLogger, we have added a couple of new features. First of all, we have improved your fuel coefficient settings to allow you to decide how FlightLogger should calculate fuel consumption on each of your aircraft. This means big improvements to both the fuel report, aircraft report, and airport report.
Please watch the video below carefully and follow the instructions, as there are certain things you must do and know before you can start using this functionality.
Fuel registration option added to flight registrations
The second new feature on fuel management is the option to enable manual fuel registration in your flight registrations. This means your instructors and crew are prompted to input details on departure fuel levels.
This will further increase the quality of your fuel, aircraft, and airport reports, and also enable valuable fuel information on the arrival/departure page that we will launch in the near future.
When enabled, the flight registration page will look like this, and the instructor will be prompted to fill out departure fuel details.
To enable the setting, go to Account Settings -> General
From here, simply enable fuel registration.
To learn more about fuel registration, visit this Help Center page.
Departure/arrival airport info added to bookings
In preparation for a very exciting new feature that we expect to launch in the near future, we're already introducing a couple of additional functionalities with this update. In this update, we are adding the option to select the departure and arrival airport on your bookings, provided the setting is switched on in the account setting. This is where you'll find the new account setting. By default, departure/arrival airport is switched on for your account.
When enabled, the departure and arrival airports must be selected when booking an aircraft. By default, the aircraft's home airport will be selected.
On the booking overview, the airport information is shown for each booking, allowing all users to see where your aircraft will be at a certain time.
Improvement to Flight Time Limitation Module – add "external" flights manually
To further increase the value of the Flight Time Limitation Module, we have enabled manual entries of flights performed outside of your FlightLogger account.
Users simply go to their logbook and add additional lines manually (1) - and define whether the entry should be included in Flight Time Limitation calculations or not (2).
This function is something that many of our customers have asked for and it's yet another step on the path to make the Flight Time Limitation Module an almost indispensable add-on to FlightLogger. The next big step will be to include duty times as well, which we expect to release in 2021. We know many schools would like to have this feature, and therefore it has a high priority for us.
Other minor updates:
Optional email notifications on certificate expirations
When creating or editing a certificate requirement, you now have an option to enable automatic email notifications to the user when certificates are about to expire. This can be set both on the certificate through either the Master certificate list or on the certificate requirement for each of your programs.
Improved User Data exporting
Many FlightLogger partners have asked for better user export possibilities in order to be able to copy FlightLogger user data into other 3rd party systems. Therefore, we have improved the user export functionality which now includes all user data when exporting from the user overview.
Please be aware that if you use this export for your own custom-made reports or importing into 3rd party systems, these changes might require you to adjust these accordingly.
Additionally, we have added a new account setting allowing administrators to control which user roles have access to making export of user data.
Restricting access to user documents
To give you better control of who can access user documents, we have added a new setting for when uploading a document (or creating a folder) in the user's document section.
The new setting is called Visible to all and is by default enabled on your existing documents, which means you keep your current settings. By switching this setting off, you can restrict access to the document (or folder) for all users except administrators. And of course, you still use the Visible to the user setting to control whether the student should be able to see the document.
Limitation of maximum 6 sittings removed
For some schools the maximum of 6 sittings in a group is no longer valid, and therefore you can now define the maximum number yourself in your theory course settings.
Program status on user page now showing “Remaining hours” row
When looking at a user page, you now have quick access to see how many hours remain of each activity via the “Remaining” row added just beneath the total hours. This makes it even easier to get an overview of the student’s current program status.
Note that this can be switched on and off via program revision settings.
Other minor improvements and bug fixes
As always, we have released a number of minor improvements and bug fixes, based on the input we have received from all of you. Thank you all for contributing with bug reports and great ideas for the platform.
As always, please email to support@flightlogger.net if you have any question, comments or ideas that you would like to share with us :-)
All the best,
FlightLogger
