Release Notes

Software update 8/04/2024: User role-based booking visibility, enforce 2-factor authentication

We are ready to release our third major update of the year on Monday April 8th at 05:00 UTC. No downtime is expected for this update, so nothing is required from your side.

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our third major update for 2024. With this update, administrators now have the capability to tailor how far ahead users can view and receive notifications regarding bookings, depending on their user role. This feature is specifically crafted to facilitate long-term planning while ensuring a smooth experience for students, instructors, and other users.

Additionally, a notable enhancement is the option to enforce 2-factor authentication for all users within your account. By implementing this security measure, your FlightLogger account is fortified against unauthorized access, thereby safeguarding your valuable data.

These are the highlights of the update:

  • User role-based booking visibility
  • Enforce 2-factor authentication
  • Booking info added to Raw Data Flight Reports

  • Minor improvements and bug fixes

For more details, please continue reading below.

User role-based booking visibility

There has been a growing demand for features that allow our clients to plan ahead without revealing bookings to students, instructors, and other users. This new update addresses this need by adding a section in your account settings where you can customize how far ahead in time each user role can view bookings.

Please watch this quick video for a quick introduction to the update:

How to configure booking visibility of your users

Through Administration -> Account settings -> Bookings, you can now set the visibility period for each user role as shown here.

Note: A user with several user roles assigned can see bookings according to the user role setting that allows the most visibility.

Once configured, users will only see bookings on their My Bookings section and elsewhere based on these settings and will receive email notifications for bookings as they become visible to them at midnight. This ensures that you can rearrange non-visible bookings without notifying users.

When using the calendar synchronization, all bookings are synchronized and will appear on the calendar according to the visibility settings of the user.

Determining who can see a certain booking

Schedulers can quickly determine which users have visibility of a booking by looking for the eye icon next to the booked individuals on the booking page.

The new feature of course also applies to rental bookings as well as all theory bookings.

Enforce 2-factor authentication

To enhance security measures, we advise all users to activate 2-factor authentication (2FA) on their user profile. As an organization, you now have the option to enforce 2FA for all users or specific user roles. This significantly minimizes the chances of unauthorized individuals gaining access to your valuable data.

Watch this quick video to learn about enforcing 2-factor authentication in FlightLogger:

How to enforce 2-factor authentication

To enforce 2FA, you need to have the Administrator user role and have 2FA enabled on your personal account.

Simply navigate to Administration -> Account settings -> User settings under the new section called User security. From there, select the user roles for which you want to enforce 2FA. Click Save to apply the changes.

Note: Users with several user roles in FlightLogger will be enforced to activate 2FA if just one of their user roles has been 2FA enforced.

What happens when you enforce 2FA?

Upon saving, users assigned to those user roles will be automatically logged out of FlightLogger. They will then be redirected to a page where they will be guided through the process of setting up 2FA on their profile. Users who already have 2FA enabled on their accounts will not be affected.

Before enforcing 2FA for your users, we recommend reviewing the guidelines provided in the above video.

Booking info added to Raw Data Flight Reports

Several users have requested the inclusion of booking information in the Raw Data Flight Report for easier comparison between booked and logged data. We have listened to your feedback and now, with the latest update, this information is available in the Raw Data Flight Report, empowering you to generate personalized reports tailored to your needs.
