It's time for the 4th major update of the year - introducing a brand new account setting to display all durations in decimals instead of hours and minutes, functionality to block booking from being created based on specific warnings, and more.
On Monday the 8th of May at 05:00 UTC we will roll out yet another major update on all FlightLogger accounts.
Please note that your FlightLogger account will be in maintenance mode (out of service) for up to 30 minutes while we update the database to handle decimal hours.
For the quick intro, please watch this short video:
Introduction
For some of our clients it's a requirement that FlightLogger displays durations in decimal hours rather than hours:minutes, and with this release we make it possible.
Also, the upcoming release fulfils a request from many of you to be able to prevent bookings from being created in case there are warnings on the aircraft, student, instructor, etc.
Apart from that we also release some other smaller improvements. Here are the most important news that we will release this time:
- Durations to be displayed in decimal hours (based on account setting) in both FlightLogger and my|FlightLogger
- Block bookings from being created in case of warnings
- Easier configuration of guest user access settings
- Availability info added to FlightLogger's API
- Minor improvements and bug fixes
Durations to be displayed in decimal hours
In some regions of the world it is the standard to display durations in decimal hours rather than hours:minutes.
This update introduces a new account setting for you to switch between showing durations in decimal hours or hours:minutes. While it may not appear as a very big thing, this has in fact been a huge task for our developer team, and we are happy to release this option.
How to switch to decimal hours in FlightLogger
Go to Administration -> Account Settings -> General settings, and find the section named Date & time. Here you'll find the new settings as shown below.
Remember to click Save after changing the setting.
How to switch to decimal hours on your personal my|FlightLogger account
Go to the settings page in my|FlightLogger and find the setting named Time Format. Set it to Decimals and remember to click Update.
After changing this, all time durations will be displayed accordingly.
Block bookings from being created in case of warnings
Many clients have asked for a more preventive approach to help them ensure compliance when booking flight and theory activities. Therefore, we now introduce a new option to have FlightLogger block your booking administrators from creating bookings in case there are any warnings on either the persons or the aircraft being booked.
In the account settings you can configure which warnings should block a flight or theory session booking from being made. Go to Administration -> Account settings -> Booking and find the two settings shown below.
Enabling either of the bookings allows you to decide which warnings should block a booking from being created on flight and theory bookings respectively:
When enabled, if trying to make a booking that has a warning conflict, the Create buttons will be greyed and locked and a text will appear explaining that a warning means the booking cannot be created, as shown here.
Easier configuration of guest user access settings
To make it easier for guest users, for example airlines or the local CAA, to access a specific group of users, we have added some improvements to the Guest user access settings. On a guest user, these settings are found under Settings -> Guest user access:
The options we've added means that you can now add specific users, classes, programs, and user groups to the list of users that a specific guest gets access to view.
In the below example, students on the A320 Type Rating program has been selected, and just like with other places in FlightLogger we provide a complete list of the users based on the guest user access settings you have made.
Availability info added to FlightLogger's API
Based on input from you, our clients, we constantly add new possibilities to our API to allow you to make the integrations that provide great value. With this update we make it possible to retrieve availability info for users and aircraft.
As always the best place to find documentation on our API is via https://api.flightlogger.net.
Minor improvements and bug fixes
As always, we use this update to also release tons of minor improvements and bug fixes to improve your experience when using FlightLogger.
We would like to thank all of of you who provided us with feedback, suggestions and bug reporting. It means the world to us to have your support, criticism and feedback, so please keep it coming at support@flightlogger.net 😊
Thanks for your time.
Regards,
FlightLogger
