We're ready to release our 7th major update of the year on Tuesday, July 21st at 06:00 UTC. No downtime is expected.
Efficient scheduling is the backbone of any successful flight training operation—big or small. At FlightLogger, we've always prioritized smart scheduling, and we're excited to announce a major improvement that will help you manage your bookings with greater ease and control.
Please watch this video for a quick introduction to the new release:
These are the major components of the upcoming release:
- Brand-new Booking Conflict Center
- Students to Request Bookings
Brand-new Booking Conflict Center
Say goodbye to hidden scheduling clashes and last-minute cancellations. The new Booking Conflict Center provides a powerful, centralized view of all scheduling conflicts—helping you stay compliant and in control.
Note that we will make the Conflict Center go live on Tuesday July 22nd, leaving our backbone some time to calculate conflicts for all existing bookings.
Quick Conflict Detection
Accessible via a new top-bar icon on the Booking page, the Conflict Center presents an overview of conflicts for the selected date. You can customize which conflict types appear (via Account Settings → Booking) and navigate between them using clearly organized tabs.
When clicking the icon, you are presented with an overview of all conflicts for the selected date, based on the conflict types that you have selected to include in the Conflict Center (via Account Settings -> Booking). The various tabs display an overview for each type of conflict.
This gives you an easy way to make sure that each your scheduled operations are compliant. We recommend that you do this as a routine task a day in advance or whatever fits your standards.
A simple workflow is to simply go through the list of conflicts, inspect each conflict and either:
- Take proper action to solve the conflict. Clicking a conflict will open the booking it concerns. You can also click links to go directly to the user or aircraft that it involves. Resolve the issue, and the conflict will automatically disappear from the list.
- If the conflict is acceptable, click the three-dot menu and choose Ignore. Note that ignoring a conflict means it will be set as ignored for all users.
Ignored conflicts can be easily reviewed by clicking the eye icon at the top of the modal. Plus, for ease of use, the modal window is draggable—place it wherever it suits your workflow best.
Students to Request Bookings
The other big highlight of this release is that you can now enable students to request a booking - very much the same way as a renter can request a booking today.
Why this matters:
-
For small and medium-sized schools this removes the possible bottlenecks of centralized scheduling.
-
Fills scheduling gaps by letting students take initiative, improving aircraft and instructor utilization.
How it works
To enable the feature, go to Administration -> Account Settings - User Settings -> Renter & Student Permissions and toggle on Students can request bookings.
Once enabled, students will see a new Request Aircraft Booking option under Bookings.
They can select the aircraft, instructor, lesson, and preferred time—just like a normal booking.
Once the student has requested a booking, an email notification is sent to the booked instructor with a link to either approve or reject the booking. Even though a booking request is not approved it is still a valid booking.
Approval can be done from the instructor's front page in FlightLogger, where it is listed together with other bookings:
When clicking the Approve/Decline button, the instructor can write a note and either approve or decline the booking request.
When responding, instructors can add a comment for context.
-
If approved, the booking is confirmed and the student is notified.
-
If declined, the request is removed and the student receives an explanation.
Tip: Make sure to brief your students on this new workflow to ensure smooth adoption.
