Software update 9/12/2024: Aircraft price lists, improved PTR, and export of bookings

We are ready to release the 12th major update of the year on Monday, December 9th at 07:00 UTC. No downtime is expected for this update.

For a quick intro to the new update please watch this short video.

Here are the key highlights of this update:

  • Implementation of price lists for efficient aircraft pricing configuration
  • Introduction of new feature to export booking information in CSV/XML format
  • Enhancements to ensure our PTR report meets all Transport Canada compliance requirements
  • Various minor improvements and bug fixes

We are excited to provide these updates to enhance your experience!

Implementation of price lists for efficient aircraft pricing configuration

This update introduces a new feature for all clients using our User Balance Module (UBM): Aircraft price lists. With this functionality, you can create standard price lists and easily apply them across multiple aircraft. This means you only need to establish your pricing structure once, rather than updating each aircraft individually.

How to create a new aircraft price list

Navigate to Administration -> Aircraft and click the new Price lists button.

This takes you to the Price lists page where you can see all your price lists. Click the button to create a new price list.

Give the new price list a name and click Create Price list.

From this point, you will follow the same principles for setting up a price list as you would for establishing pricing on an aircraft, including any advanced pricing options if applicable. Once completed, your price list will be ready for application.

How to apply a price list to aircraft

From the same page, click on the Aircraft tab. Select the aircraft to which you wish to apply the price list, then click Apply Price List and confirm the modal text that appears.

The price list will now be applied to the selected aircraft. An overview will display when the price list was applied for each aircraft and by which admin user.

Please note the following:
  • When applying price lists, any existing prices on the aircraft will be overwritten. If a specific program does not have a specified price, any previously applied prices will remain.
  • If multiple price lists are applied to the same aircraft with conflicting prices, the pricing from the most recently applied price list will take precedence.
  • Changes made to a price list after it has been applied to an aircraft will not be reflected on that aircraft. You will need to reapply the price list after making any changes.

This new feature is great for efficiently updating your aircraft prices, which we know that many of you plan to do around New Year. We hope you like it.

Introduction of new feature to export booking information in CSV/XML format

As requested by many schools we now release an option to export a list of your bookings for a set time interval. We recently introduced the Bookings list view including the new changelog.

With this update, you can now easily make a CSV or XML export of the selected bookings, simply by clicking the Export as button. Super simple and valuable for many of you.

For Canadian Schools: Enhancements to ensure our PTR report meets all TC compliance requirements

In response to the increasing number of Canadian academies utilizing FlightLogger, we are pleased to introduce functionality that enables you to insert PTR gradings when logging a flight lesson - and extract Pilot Training Records (PTRs) that fully comply with Transport Canada regulations.

This allows you to log training flights according to PTR guidelines within FlightLogger. To get started, simply enable PTR gradings on your flight training program revision.

How to activate PTR grading on a revision

Go to Administration -> Programs and click the specific flying program. Then click the edit (pencil) icon next to your active revision. This brings you to the revision settings and all you need to do is to tick the setting called Use additional Pilot Training Record gradings (Canada) and then save the revision.

You are now ready to start PTR grading on this program, including on students already active on the revision.

How to do the PTR grading

When logging a lesson on a PTR activated program you now get an additional tab labeled PTR.

The four standard tabs will function as usual. Ensure you select an aircraft on the Flight tab before beginning the PTR grading to ensure the grading is connected to the specific flight. If multiple flights are added to the registration, you will be able to perform PTR grading for each flight.

On the PTR tab, simply add your grades by selecting a grade for each relevant entry. Leave the other fields empty and submit the lesson registration as normal. The lesson will now be PTR graded, and all entries will automatically populate the student's PTR document, which can then be exported as a PDF file.

How to export a student's PTR for a training program

Go to the student folder via the Users page. Now click Reports -> Report generator. In the modal click the Format dropdown and select Pilot training record.

Select the relevant program and click Generate. A pdf version of the PTR is now generated in a few seconds for you including all the grading information required by Transport Canada.
