User Permissions

User Role Permissions area

The User Permissions area allows administrators greater flexibility and control over user roles.

Introduction

The User Permissions area allows administrators to assign specific permissions to different user roles. This ensures better configuration of access to various data and functionalities in FlightLogger.

More tailored permission control allows limitting how many administrators are needed on a FlightLogger account by instead giving them personal privileges as needed.

Permissions

FlightLogger is currently in the process of moving the configurable permissions from Administration > Account settings > User settings to the more granular Administration > User Permissions area.

Configurable permissions

In general the permissions area is designed to give the flexibility of configuring if users have permissions that either:

  • Does not give access to an area of FlightLogger (None)
  • Can view an area but not manage or change data (View)
  • Can manage an area (Manage)

Some areas have been designed to allow configuration of whether a user can manipulate (For example Certificates):

  • No access to manage an item (None)
  • Can manage own items (Own)
  • Can manage other user's items (Other)
  • Can manage all user's items (All)

Permission areas

Permissions in FlightLogger have been split over different areas of FlightLogger:

  • Aircraft
  • Bookings
  • Certificates
  • Departures/Arrivals
  • Operations
  • Programs
  • Rentals
  • Reports
  • Students
  • User Balance Module (UBM)

Assigning permissions on user roles

The User Permissions area gives the ability to configure permissions on a user role, ensuring all users within a role have the optimal set of permissions.

For example, if you want to allow instructors to read certificates but not approve them, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to Administration > User Permissions.

  2. Select the Instructor tab.

  3. Locate the Certificates section.

  4. Set Can read certificates to All

  5. Set Can approve certificates to None to prevent instructors from finalizing approvals.

With this setup, all users assigned to the Instructor role will be able to manage certificates but will not have the authority to approve them. This ensures that approvals remain controlled while still granting the necessary level of access for administrative tasks.

If additional permissions are needed for specific users other than the role they poses they can be set here.
