Business Insights – Aircraft-related widgets

This article covers the available widgets in the Aircraft category of the Business Insights module. These widgets provide a real-time overview of aircraft usage, flight hours, simulator activity, and cancellations – helping you monitor operational trends and make informed decisions.

Each widget can be added to your FlightLogger dashboard and configured to show data across your organization or filtered by user, aircraft type, or group.

Aircraft hours by PIC

What it shows:
This widget displays the total block time (flight hours) flown by each Pilot in Command (PIC) within a selected period.

When to use it:
Use this widget to monitor who is flying the most in your operation. It is helpful for balancing instructor workloads, reviewing student PIC time, or tracking usage across multiple pilots.

Example use:
Identify the top five PICs by total flight hours during the past month.

Flight hours by class

What it shows:
This widget shows the total flight time grouped by student class (e.g., “PPL Class A”, “ATPL Spring 2025”).

When to use it:
Use this widget to track flight activity across different student groups or training cohorts. It helps determine which classes are on track, ahead, or falling behind in terms of flight hours.

Example use:
Compare total flight time between PPL Class A and B to evaluate progression rates.

Flight hours by class (filtered by user)

What it shows:
This widget shows total flight hours per class, filtered for one specific user (typically an instructor).

When to use it:
Use this widget if you want to see how much a particular instructor has flown with each of their assigned classes.

Example use:
An instructor can view which of their classes has accumulated the most flight time in the current semester.

Use this widget to analyze which aircraft types are used most frequently in your operation. This can help with fleet planning and maintenance scheduling.

Example use:
Compare utilization between single-engine and multi-engine aircraft over the past quarter.

Flight hours by type (filtered by user)

What it shows:
This widget shows flight hours per aircraft type for one specific user (instructor or PIC).

When to use it:
Use this widget to evaluate which aircraft types a specific pilot or instructor has flown most frequently.

Example use:
See if an instructor has met their multi-engine instruction quota for the month.

Maintenance occupation

What it shows:
This widget shows the number of hours each aircraft has been blocked from scheduling due to planned maintenance.

When to use it:
Use this widget to assess how much aircraft availability is affected by maintenance. It can help you plan future checks to avoid operational bottlenecks.

Example use:
See which aircraft had the highest maintenance-related downtime in the last 60 days.

Simulator hours by PIC

What it shows:
This widget displays total simulator time logged by each PIC.

When to use it:
Use this to monitor simulator use across your team. It is useful for tracking simulator-based training progress and ensuring simulator resources are utilized effectively.
