Calculation of oil consumption
This article explains how oil consumption is calculated in FlightLogger
For schools that have enabled oil registration on their accounts (via Account Settings -> General Settings -> Registrations), FlightLogger simplifies the calculation of oil consumption based on the amount of oil added relative to various metrics (such as flight time, block time, tachometer readings, etc.).
You can view the calculated oil consumption for an aircraft on the aircraft page by navigating to Edit Aircraft -> General. The oil consumption displayed reflects the most recent oil addition, following the guidelines outlined below.
How Oil Consumption is Calculated
Each time a flight is logged with oil added, the oil consumption is recalculated. This calculation is based on the premise that oil is always filled to capacity before flight.
After logging a flight that includes an oil addition, FlightLogger determines the oil consumption (or oil burn) by dividing the total amount of oil added by the cumulative flight log data for all flights since the last recorded oil addition. It's important to note that the hours logged during the flight where oil was added are not included in this calculation; however, they will be incorporated in the next calculation when another flight with an oil addition is logged.
It is important to understand that oil is presumed to be added before a flight. Consequently, the hours recorded during the flight in which oil is added are excluded from the oil consumption calculation. However, these hours will be included in the subsequent calculation when another flight with an oil addition is logged.
