Cloning a training program

If you want to create a new training program that’s similar to one you already have, the quickest way is to clone your existing program using FlightLogger’s cloning function.

Cloning a training program in FlightLogger creates an exact copy of an existing program — including all lessons, phases, and settings — so you can quickly set up a new program without starting from scratch. Watch the video below to see how it works.

How to Clone a Training Program

Cloning a program is the quickest way to create a new training program if it’s very similar to one you already have. Instead of starting from scratch, you can copy an existing setup and simply adjust the details.

When to Use Cloning

Cloning is the right choice when:

  • You are setting up a program for a new aircraft type that follows the same structure as an existing one.
  • You need a seasonal or intake-specific variant of a recurring program (e.g., a new cohort of Recurrent Training).
  • You want to test changes to a program without affecting students currently enrolled in the original.

Choose this method if you need a program that is identical or nearly identical to an existing one — for example, duplicating Recurrent Training.

Steps to Clone a Program

  • Ensure you have the rights to See and Edit programs

Without these permissions, the Administration → Programs menu and the Clone icon will not be visible.

  • Go to Administration → Programs to see all your existing programs.

  • Find the program you want to copy.

  • Click the Blue Clone icon to the right.

  • Click "OK" on the prompt.

  • FlightLogger will now create a one-to-one copy of the selected program. This may take a few minutes, depending on the program size. If the cloned program does not appear immediately, refresh the page. The new program will appear with “Clone” in the name. To rename it, simply click the Edit icon and change the name.

  • All lessons, exercises, requirements, and settings will be included. You can edit these as needed.

  • The new program is not active until students are attached, so you’re free to make any changes, whether major or minor,before it goes live.

    Notes:

    • Major changes include deleting or adding lessons or phases.
    • Minor changes include renaming, updating times, and adding or deleting briefings.
    • The clone is always based on the active revision of the original program. Make sure you have set the correct revision before starting the clone.

TIP: Cloning a program preserves the original version, so you can experiment freely in the new copy without affecting existing training records.

Note: The cloned program does not carry over enrolled students, historical training records, or logbook entries from the original. Only the program structure and settings are copied.

What’s Included in a Cloned Program

When you clone a program, FlightLogger makes a full copy that includes:

  • All lessons and exercises

  • Phases (with their order preserved)

  • Briefing texts and syllabus times

  • Certificate requirements

  • Flight time limitation settings (if enabled on your account)

  • Master exercise list (as linked to the copied lessons)
