Configuring Flight Session Types in FlightLogger

Customize and manage your flight training session types directly in FlightLogger to better match your organization’s terminology and workflow.

FlightLogger now allows training organizations to define and customize the different session types used for flight lessons and checks throughout the system.

These session types are used both when:

  • Scheduling bookings

  • Setting up lessons inside flight training programs

This gives schools greater flexibility to align terminology with their own operational procedures and regulatory requirements.

To customize the wording of the available session types:

  1. Go to Administration

  2. Select Account Settings

  3. Open the new Flight Training section

Inside this section, you can customize the default names for:

  • Flight lesson

  • Stage check

  • Final stage check

  • Official flight test

  • Proficiency check

This section includes default wording out of the box, but all names can be changed to match your organization’s preferred terminology.

For example:

  • “Stage check” could be renamed to “Progress test”

  • “Official skill test” could be renamed to “CAA skill test”

Changes made will automatically be reflected throughout FlightLogger.

How session types are used in bookings

Once configured, the session types become available directly on the booking page.

When creating a booking:

  1. Select the instructor and student
  2. Select the training program for the student

  3. Choose the relevant session type

This allows schedulers to filter and organize bookings based on the type of training session being conducted. The selected session type will appear directly on the booking itself, helping instructors, students, and administrators quickly identify the purpose of the session.

Assign session types to program lessons

After configuring the session type names, they can be assigned to lessons inside flight training programs.

To configure this:

  1. Go to Programs

  2. Open the relevant Flight Program

  3. Select the program Revision

  4. Edit the individual lesson you want to modify

At the top of the lesson editor, next to the lesson name, you will find the Session Type dropdown.

From here, you can assign the appropriate session type to the lesson.

Examples:

  • Flight Lesson

  • Stage Check

  • Final Stage Check

  • Official Flight Test

  • Proficiency Check

Once assigned, the lesson will automatically use that session type when scheduled through bookings.

Impact on Active Students

Changing the session type of an existing lesson is considered a minor program change in FlightLogger.

This means the update will automatically be reflected for students already active on the program revision.
