The Master Exercise List allows schools to create and reuse exercises across multiple revisions and lessons, while also tracking student performance on each exercise over time.
Managing the Master Exercise List
To oversee and maintain a Master Exercise List, a user (or user group) must be assigned to this responsibility.
1. For a whole user group, you can assign this role by going to:
Administration → User Permissions
-
Select the relevant user group
-
Navigate to the Programs option
-
Enable the "Manage" option "Can see and edit master exercise lists"
2. For an individual user, you can assign this role by going to:
User Profile page → Settings → Permissions
-
Navigate to the Programs option
-
Enable the "Manage" option "Can see and edit master exercise lists"
Once assigned, the responsible Master Exercise user(s) is responsible for managing the content and structure of exercises used across your training programs.
This ensures consistency, improves tracking, supports better statistics, creates structured revisions and simplifies instructor workflows.
Understanding the Master Exercise List
To access the Master Exercise List for a program:
Go to Administration → Programs
Click on the name of the specific program
In the program view, look for the Master Exercise List box in the top right-hand corner
At the top of the Master Exercise List page, there is an information box with helpfulguidance. You can hide it by clicking the X.
You can reopen it anytime by clicking the information icon.
The Master Exercise List page will open a full list of exercises linked to the program.
The list includes two core concepts:
- Statistic Groups: These are groups consisting of exercises that are part of, or closely related to, a specific area of the training program.
Statistic groups are used to track student progress.
For example, all exercises related to approach training are grouped under a single statistic group called "Approach", allowing performance across similar exercises to be tracked together.
In this example, the Approach statistic group contains four exercises related to the approach phase of training. This is shown in the MEC column.
*Note: MEC (Master Exercise Count): The number of master exercises associated with this statistic group.
From here, you can also create new Master Exercises and assign them directly to the selected Statistic Group.
You will also see how many times a specific exercise is used within the selected program.
For example, the exercise "Approach and Final" appears 25 times throughout this particular program, giving a quick view of how frequently it is applied in training.
This information is available under the EU column.
*Note: EU (Exercise Usage): The number of times this master exercise is in use.
Clicking the number in the Exercise Usage column will open a list of all Phases, Lessons, Revisions or missions where that specific exercise is used. Clicking on the 25 of the exercise "Approach and Final" will open a new information field.
From the list, you can even jump directly into a specific lesson to review or update it.
Duplicate exercises
Duplicate exercises (e.g. due to typos or formatting differences) can be merged into one.
In the above example, the exercise "Approach" has been spelled two different ways: "Approach" and "Aproach". As a result, it appears as two separate entries in the list.
Although the exercise has been performed 82 times in total, the system displays it as two exercises, with 80 repetitions for the correctly spelled version and 2 for the misspelled one. This highlights the importance of consistent naming for accurate tracking.
But all is not lost, the Master Exercise List user can select to merge exercises.
If you select two exercises within a statistic group, such as the two versions of "Approach", a new window will open with two available actions: Merge or Move.
Merge: Combines the selected exercises or groups into a single statistic group of your choice. For example, if you merge the two "Approach" groups, you will now have one group named "Approach".
Clicking the merge icon will open a pop-up window with an information screen showing which exercises you are about to merge.
You will then need to choose which of the selected exercises should be kept as the main entry. Use the dropdown menu to select the version you want to retain as the primary name for the group.
Once selected, click Merge to combine the exercises into one unified entry.
After this action, you will end up with three unique Master Exercises instead of four.
Once the merge is completed, a change icon will appear in the MI column.
*MI (Merge Info): An icon shows if this master exercise has previously been merged with other master exercises.
Clicking this icon will open the merge history, showing when the merge was made and who made the merge.
Move: Lets you take an individual Master Exercise, like "Approach Stable", and transfer it to a completely different statistic group, if you no longer want it in the current one.
Select the exercise you want to move and click Move to group.
A popup window will appear, confirming the selected exercise. Choose the statistic group you want to move the exercise to from the dropdown list. Click Move to complete the action.
After moving "Approach Stable" to the Airside Statistic Group, only two Master Exercises now remain in the Approach group.
You will also see that the Airside Statistic Group has been updated to include the newly moved Master Exercise.
These features helps to clean up duplicates and keep your exercise list organized and consistent.
If needed, there is also an option to unmerge previously merged exercises, giving you full control over how your data is grouped.
Other Functions in the Master Exercise List
Beyond merging, moving, and tracking usage, the Master Exercise List includes several additional tools to help you manage and maintain the quality of your training data.
Search Functionality: The Master Exercise List includes a search field that allows you to quickly find and filter statistic groups. This makes it easy to locate specific exercises, clean up duplicates, or review usage across programs, especially in larger datasets.
Creating a Master Exercise from Scratch: You can create a new Master Exercise directly from the Master Exercise List.
Start by entering a name for the exercise.
Below the name field, choose the Statistic Group you want this exercise to belong to.
If you do not select a group, FlightLogger will automatically create a new Statistic Group using the same name as the exercise.
*Note: Statistic Groups are important for tracking student performance across lessons, revisions, and programs—so consistent grouping ensures better reporting and insight.
Filtering Statistic Groups: You can choose to view all Statistic Groups, or filter out those that contain only Master Exercises not currently in use in your program.
This makes it easier to get a quick overview and is especially helpful when cleaning up and organizing your programs.
Other options in the Master Exercise List: As you navigate the Master Exercise List, you will see several action icons next to each exercise:
-
Move: Transfer an exercise to a different Statistic Group.
-
Delete: Remove an exercise that has been moved.
-
Edit Name: Update the name of the exercise or group.
-
Deactivate: Remove the exercise from active use. Deactivated exercises will be placed in a deactivated list, where they are kept for reference but no longer available for use in new lessons or revisions.
These tools are designed to be intuitive, making it easy to keep your list organized and up to date and needs no deeper explanation.
