FlightLogger supports rental flights for both aircraft and simulators. This article explains how renters—or administrators with the Booking administrator role—can register a rental flight using the new flight registration page on a laptop.
Watch the video tutorial:
Who can register a rental?
Depending on how your organization has set up its FlightLogger account, there are two possible ways a rental flight can be registered:
-
The renter can register the flight directly from their own login (best practice for simplicity and accountability).
-
A booking administrator can register the rental on behalf of the renter (if configured accordingly in the account settings).
In either case, the process is performed via the new flight registration page.
Step-by-step: How to register a rental flight
Once the rental has taken place, the flight must be registered. Here’s how:
1. Open the rental flight registration
-
Go to your FlightLogger front page.
-
Locate the rental booking under Upcoming bookings.
-
Click Proceed on the rental to open the new flight registration page.
The page is divided into three tabs:
Flight, Attachments, and Debriefing, to make it easier to navigate and structure your inputs.
2. Fill in the Flight tab
Here, you register all relevant flight information. Many fields are pre-filled based on your booking, but you must confirm or update them as needed.
Information to complete:
-
Aircraft: Pre-selected from the booking.
-
Flight type: Select whether the flight was:
-
VFR
-
IFR
-
A combination (split) – e.g., 1 hour VFR and 0.5 hour IFR.
-
-
Flight timing:
-
Tacho start: Pre-filled from the aircraft's last flight.
-
Off block, takeoff, landing, on block: Use dropdowns to select the correct time.
Times are auto-calculated based on booking duration but can be adjusted.
-
-
Tacho end: Enter the final reading of the tacho after the flight.
-
FlightLogger will calculate:
-
Block time
-
Tacho time
-
Airborne time (if applicable)
-
-
-
Departure & Arrival:
-
Defaults to the aircraft's home base.
-
Can be changed if the flight included another airport.
-
-
Landings:
-
Add types of landings (e.g., full stop, touch-and-go).
-
You can register landings at multiple airports if needed.
-
-
Multiple legs:
-
For navigation flights with several legs, use the arrows at the bottom of the page to add additional segments.
-
3. Add documents in the Attachments tab
Upload any supporting documentation, such as:
-
Fuel receipts
-
Weight & balance documents
-
Rental agreements
-
Photos of the aircraft, flight log, etc.
If you use a tablet or smartphone, you can also take a picture directly.
Don’t worry if your browser crashes or you navigate away by accident—FlightLogger automatically saves a draft of your registration. When you return, your progress will still be there.
4. Complete the Debriefing tab
Here you can:
-
Add a general comment about the flight (e.g., "no issues", "bumpy weather", "circuit training").
-
Use the report buttons to:
-
Send maintenance feedback
-
Submit feedback to your school/operator
-
File a Safety Management Report (if enabled on your account)
-
These tools help your organization improve operations and safety.
5. Submit the rental
When you’ve reviewed your input, click Submit to complete the rental.
-
The flight is now registered.
-
The booking will disappear from your front page.
-
All flight times and landings are now logged and available for instructors, administrators, and reports.
Summary
Tab | Purpose |
---|---|
Flight | Enter core details: times, landings, tacho readings |
Attachments | Upload relevant files or images |
Debriefing | Final comments and optional reporting |
Tip for administrators
If you’re an admin registering the rental:
