Registering an operation flight using a laptop

This video shows how to register an operations flight such as a scenic tour or a ferry flight using FlightLogger on a laptop.

Who can use this?

  • Any crew member or instructor assigned to an operational flight booking.

  • The flight must first be booked in FlightLogger before it can be registered.

  • Users must have the relevant permissions to proceed and complete flight registrations.

Step-by-step: How to complete the registration

1. Open the booking from your dashboard

Once logged in, you’ll find your assigned operation flights listed on your front page, along with any:

  • Wall posts

  • Certificate warnings

  • Aircraft status info

Locate the relevant booking and click Proceed to begin the registration.

2. Work through the four registration tabs

The flight registration interface includes four tabs, designed for clarity and ease of use:

1. Briefing

This tab includes:

  • Flight name (automatically retrieved from the booking)

  • Customer (from booking)

  • PIC and any crew members

  • Briefing comment – Describe any pre-flight planning, safety notes, or special instructions (optional but recommended)

2. Flight

This is the core of your registration. You’ll enter:

  • Aircraft – pre-selected from booking

  • Flight type – Choose VFR, IFR, or split (if both types were flown)

  • Day/Night – Also supports split logging

  • Tacho start – pre-filled from previous flight

  • Off block, Takeoff, Landing, On block – pre-filled from booking duration, but editable

  • Tacho end – enter the actual value on return

Landing details:
Log multiple landings if relevant. For each one, you can:

  • Set number of landings

  • Select the type (e.g., full stop, touch-and-go)

  • Select airport

If your operation involved more than one leg (e.g., navigation or multiple destinations), add additional flight segments using the Add flight button.

Auto-save feature
FlightLogger automatically saves drafts. If the browser refreshes or you leave the page by accident, your progress will still be available when you return.

3. Attachments

Upload any documents related to the flight:

  • Fuel receipts

  • Passenger confirmations

  • Mission paperwork

  • ATC documents, etc.

You can upload files from your computer, or—if you're using a tablet or mobile—take a photo directly.

4. Debriefing

In this final tab, you can:

  • Write a debriefing comment

  • Submit one or more of the following:

    • Maintenance report

    • General feedback

    • Safety Management Report (SMS)

These reports are automatically routed to the relevant parties based on your account configuration.

3. Submit the registration

Click Submit to complete the registration. If everything is valid, you will be redirected back to your dashboard.

The flight is now:

  • Marked as registered

  • Removed from your active list

  • Available in the history view (if permissions allow)

Tips & Best Practices

  • Double-check tacho and block times to ensure correct logging.

  • Use the briefing and debriefing fields to create a documented flight history.

  • For multi-leg flights, ensure each segment is registered to reflect real operational movement.
