FlightLogger now supports automatic charging for ground training through our latest expansion of the User Balance Module (UBM).
Our clients can now create pricing structures for both LMS-enabled ground training programs and normal training programs. This allows for automatic charging of students directly through the User Balance Module for both ground and flight training.

What Is Ground Training Pricing in FlightLogger?
Ground training pricing allows administrators to assign prices and price lists to revisions inside FlightLogger.
Pricing can be configured for different session types, such as:
-
Ground lessons
-
Stage checks
-
Final stage checks
-
Official exams
-
Knowledge tests
-
Supplemental ground lessons
Session type names can be customized in Account Settings.
Once pricing is applied to a program revision, FlightLogger automatically handles charging through the standard UBM workflow, as our clients are used to with Flight Training Programs.
How to set up prices on a Ground Training Program
- Enter the overview of your training programs by going under Administration > Programs.
- Find the training program that you wish to set up pricing on and enter the overview of the revisions on that program. This is done by clicking on the name of the program.
- Click prices on the revision that you wish to set prices for.
- Entering the overview, it's now possible to define prices on the different session types by clicking on the pencil to the far right.
- When editing the prices on a specific session type, it's possible to define whether this price should be a fixed rate or an hourly rate.
- Select if the price should be Affected by Discount which refers to the individual discount that is set up for students, if discounts are currently used in your UBM setup.
Fixed rate - the price for attending a specific type of session, not taking the duration into account.
Hourly rate - The price for attending a specific type of session depends on the duration and the hourly rate.
Price Lists in FlightLogger
FlightLogger allows administrators to create reusable price lists for ground training. Price Lists make it easy to apply the same pricing structure across multiple revisions, and it's possible to define within a price list what the price should be for the different session types.
Different types of Price Lists can be created, and once a price list has been created, then it can easily be applied to a revision.
To see a walkthrough on how to create Price List and add it to a revision, please review the click-through video below:
Please note that adding a Price List to a revision will override the existing prices that are already enabled on that revision. We recommend that if you have students who are connected to the same program but on different prices, you control this by having multiple revisions where you can apply a Price List to each individual revision
Applying Discounts to Ground Training Pricing
Administrators can also decide whether a pricing item should be affected by discounts.
This allows organizations to include ground training sessions in their existing discount workflows and pricing policies.
If Discount is not enabled on your FlightLogger account today, then this can be enabled by entering Account Settings - User Balance Module (UBM).
How Automatic Charging Works
Once prices have been applied to a revision, FlightLogger automatically charges students when they attend ground training. The transactions can be found in different areas in FlightLogger:
- Student Profile by entering Accounting - Balances. This will show a combined view of all transactions on a student account, including flight training for a selected period.
- Reports - Accounting transactions provide a full overview of all transactions that are on your FlightLogger account.
The automatic charging workflow follows the same User Balance Management logic already used for flight training.
When a student attends a ground training session:
-
A transaction is automatically generated
-
The amount is deducted from the student's balance
-
The transaction is recorded in the accounting overview
- Corrections to the registration will be directly reflected on the balance of the student as a correction line item
This creates a fully automated billing workflow for theoretical training activities.
Account Settings for the User Balance Module
Navigate to Account Settings - User Balance Module (UBM) to set up the UBM in FlightLogger.
It's possible to define a Credit limit and Credit Warning. There has been made no changes to this workflow in relation to Ground Training so to summarize:
-
When an account is at or above the credit limit the money icon will be green.
-
When an account is below the credit limit the money icon will be yellow.
-
When an account is below the credit warning the money icon will be magenta.
-
When an account is below zero the money icon will be red.
It's also possible for our client to Activate Discount in the Account Settings of the UBM. This discount number is defined on each individual student profile that should be affected by the discount.
The Briefing/Debriefing Rate defines the briefing rate and debriefing rate that you wish to have charged for the briefings that the students are attending in correspondence with FlightLogger. If this area is not enabled on your FlightLogger account, please reach out to support@flightlogger.net, and then the team behind FlightLogger can enable it on your FlightLogger account.
Finally, it is now possible to control whether students who are partially attending or not attending ground training sessions shall be charged for the entire session or parts of the session. This is controlled at the very end of the page for the Account settings - User Balance Module (UBM).
