Software update 08/01/2024: Customizable flight logs

We are ready to release this year's first major update of FlightLogger on Monday January 8th at 07:00 UTC. Note that we expect 30 minutes of downtime to securely roll out the update on your account.

Dear all,

Happy New Year! We're kicking off 2024 with a bang, since we will on Monday release quite a major update to the FlightLogger software.

For a quick introduction, please watch this short video:

The first update of the year introduces the following:

  • Customizable flight logs
  • Improvements to flight registrations, reports and aircraft status
  • Minor improvements and bug fixes

Below is a more detailed introduction to the upcoming update.

Customizable flight logs

FlightLogger continues to expand its reach, with almost 50 flight training organisations joining FlightLogger last year. This means a continual addition of new aircraft and simulators, and not least new standards for logging flights, which must all be supported in our SaaS solution.

As a result, we are excited to introduce Customizable flight logs. With customizable flight logs we give all of you the flexibility to conveniently log flights in the way that suits you best within FlightLogger.

How customizable flight logs work

With the new update we give you up to 3 flight logs to be set on each aircraft: primary, secondary, and tertiary flight logs - each represented by a unique color.

Each log can be set to block, airborne, tach, hobbs, or any of the other available log options, and for each log you have complete freedom to set your preferred format (hours:minutes, decimals, etc.).

The chosen logs will be the ones that you see when logging a flight, pulling a report, viewing the aircraft status view, etc. This gives you complete freedom to log according to your requirements and thereby ensure compliance.

Customizable flight logs can be configured from here.

Continue as usual or update your flight logs?

If you prefer to continue logging flights using airborne (and maybe block time), maybe along with an additional timer, you can simply continue as you have been doing, since we will migrate your existing settings into the new setup. You can still enjoy the improvements that we apply to reports, flight registrations and the aircraft status with this update.

However, if you would like to switch to logging Hobbs, Tach, or any other log that we now allow you to configure for each aircraft and simulator, you can now set up your preferred logs (primary, secondary, and tertiary) for each aircraft once the update is released.

Before making any changes we recommend that you read the help center instructions carefully. We recommend that you begin here.

Improvements to flight registrations, reports and aircraft status

Related to the customizable flight logs we will be releasing some additional improvements. These are the most important changes:

Flight registrations

The flight registration page has not only been given a visual overhaul - it will of course also reflect the customizable flight logs selected on each aircraft/simulator. This means your instructors and PICs will find it easy to log the required flight data, where each log of course is represented with the corresponding color.

The new update gives you fully configurable logging option.

Reports

We have updated all relevant reports with the new customizable flight logs to make the reports reflect the data you prefer. Again, the primary, secondary, and tertiary logs are each highlighted in the corresponding color wherever possible, including PDF exports.

Important note

The new logs have been included in all relevant reports including the Raw data flight report. The existing block, airborne, and timer columns are still available in both reports and via the API. However, we plan to remove those around July this year. Therefore, we advice you to update any integrations and data imports to use the new columns within the next 6 months.

Aircraft status

With the new update we make the Aircraft status customizable as well, since you can now define which logs to display in the aircraft overview and on aircraft profiles. This give the maintenance staff an improved overview.

Define which logs to display via the new Current tab in the Aircraft settings...

Minor improvements and bug fixes

We are constantly working on improving our software, and our upcoming major update is no exception. In addition to addressing minor bugs, we have made several enhancements based on feedback from our users. We greatly appreciate your input, as it helps us prioritize and deliver the features and improvements that matter most to you.

In 2024, we have an exciting roadmap of development projects planned. Throughout the year, you can expect to see new features, improvements, and of course, bug fixes. As always, these updates are included in your subscription, and we look forward to starting the year off with a bang.
