We are ready to release the 3rd major update of the year, rescheduled to Monday, March 31st at 06:00 UTC. No downtime is required.
We are excited to announce the launch of FlightLogger's enhanced permissions area, designed to provide administrators with greater flexibility and control over user roles. This update reflects our commitment to delivering continuous improvements that add significant value to your operations.
Watch this video for a quick introduction:
Here are the most important new features of the release:
-
Granular user permissions - on user roles or individual user
-
Custom groups for Message Center and Document Center
- FlightLogger Business Insights custom date range
- Minor improvements and bug fixes
Granular user permissions - on user role or individual users
FlightLogger introduces a new and flexible permissions area that allows administrators to assign specific permissions to different user roles. This ensures better configuration of access to various data and functionalities in FlightLogger.
More tailored permission control thereby allows you to limit how many administrators you have on your account by instead giving them personal privileges as needed.
Assigning permissions on user roles
One of the key benefits of the new permissions area is the ability to configure permissions on a user role, ensuring all users within a role have the optimal set of permissions.
For example, if you want to allow instructors to read certificates but not approve them, follow these steps:
-
Navigate to Administration > User Permissions.
-
Select the Instructor tab.
-
Locate the Certificates section.
-
Set Can read certificates to All
-
Set Can approve certificates to None to prevent instructors from finalizing approvals.
With this setup, all users assigned to the Instructor role will be able to manage certificates but will not have the authority to approve them. This ensures that approvals remain controlled while still granting the necessary level of access for administrative tasks.
Assigning permissions to an individual user
In some cases, you may want to grant a specific user permissions beyond what is typically assigned to their role. The new permissions area allows administrators to override default role based settings and add extra permissions to individual users.
For example, if you want to give a specific Instructor permission to approve certificates, then follow these steps:
-
Navigate to the user's individual page and click Settings -> Permissions.
-
From the Personal Permissions page, choose the Certificates section.
- Set Can approve certificates to for example Other if you don't want to permit the instructor to approve own certificates but all others.
This method is ideal for situations where an Instructor, for instance, needs broader access to manage additional operational areas without being assigned full administrator privileges. This flexibility ensures that users have the right level of access based on their specific responsibilities while maintaining security and oversight.
Note that personal permissions can only be used to add permissions to the ones already configured via the user role - not to remove permissions from user role based permissions.
Export user rights overview
To make it easy to get an overview of user permission settings on all (or specific) users we have added an export function. This is also super convenient for audits etc.
Custom groups for Message Center and Document Center
Administrators can now create groups that can be used in the Message Center for streamlined communication or assigned within the Document Center to control document access.
How to create a custom group
To create a new group, follow these steps:
-
Navigate to Administration -> Groups.
-
Click Create Group.
-
Define the group name and assign users.
Once created, the group can be selected when sending messages in the Message Center or when assigning documents in the Document Center.
Here's an example of a custom group called Ground instructors:
FlightLogger Business custom date range
Based on feedback from many of our users we are now introducing the option to select a custom date range for your Business Insights dashboard. This gives you even more freedom to display key metrics just the way you need it.
To select a custom date range simply click the settings icon and select Custom range.
Minor improvements and bug fixes
