When setting up your Data Backup Module integration with either Dropbox or OneDrive, you can enable daily synchronization of your Document center, via your DBM settings (or you can add it to your existing integration if you wish to).
Enabling Document center synchronization
To enable synchronization of your document center, simply go to the DBM section of your Account settings and select the field called Sync documents from the document center and click Save.
When enabled, the content of your Document center is synchronized to your Dropbox/OneDrive account, and placed in a new folder named Documents. This is done over night after you have enabled the setting, meaning the data should be synced the next day.
About the synchronization
- The synchronization is one-way from FlightLogger to Dropbox/OneDrive. No data will be synchronized in the opposite direction.
- The synchronization is a one-to-one sync, meaning the entire folder hierarchy will be established on your Dropbox or OneDrive account. Only difference is that a time stamp is added to all document names (for example "Weight&balance.doc" becomes "Weight&balance 2021_03_15_21_54.doc").
- No sharing settings are transferred from your Document center, which means you can setup your preferred sharing settings in your backup account, independent of your FlightLogger setup.
The document center backup is placed in the folder called Documents.
What will be synchronized every day?
After the first complete synchronization of your Document center is completed the night after enabling it, the DBM will perform a synchronization every 24 hours, which of course includes your Document center.
Every night, the DBM looks for any changes made in your Document center when synchronizing, for example:
- New folders created
- Folders renamed
- Folders moved
- New documents created
- Documents renamed
- Documents deleted
- Documents edited (new file upload)
- Documents moved
Any of these changes registered in your Document center are then automatically synchronized to your Dropbox/OneDrive the same night.
What if you delete files/folders on your Dropbox/OneDrive account?
As mentioned, DBM performs one-way synchronization, which means we do not synchronize any changes from your backup account to your FlightLogger Document center. In other words, deleting or in any way changing files in your backup folder in Dropbox/OneDrive will not cause any changes/deletions in the Document center.
On the other hand, FlightLogger will not resynchronize any documents that you have deleted, moved or changed in Dropbox/OneDrive.
Only when any of the above mentioned changes are registered in your Document center, will it be synchronized to Dropbox/OneDrive.
